Among the disciplines of physical, occupational, and speech language therapy, our team has developed various programs to meet the needs of our patients with multiple medical challenges including:

Orthopedic Subacute Rehabilitation:

Hip fractures in the elderly population account for 350,000 hospitalizations each year and 60,000 nursing home admissions. Our caregivers recognize the consequences of osteoporosis and the need for appropriate therapeutic interventions to help with not only strengthening but with flexibility and balance as well. Those who undergo total knee or hip replacement require a skilled clinician who understands the precautions and expectations so they can design and implement an appropriate treatment program. At Northtowns, we are capable of dealing with people that have undergone hip replacements and are in need of expert care, attention, and sub-acute rehabilitation.

Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation:

Shortness of breath (dyspnea) is a common feature of many cardiopulmonary conditions. Our therapists recognize the need to address a patient’s functional needs with these limitations in mind. We also routinely instruct patients in various techniques to relieve some of the distress of dyspnea.

Neurological Rehabilitation:

After a neurological event (CVA, TIA, hemorrhagic stroke, Parkinson’s disease, etc.), patients require specialized care to have the best chance at restoring their function.

Fall Prevention:

One third of all seniors over the age of 65 have at least one fall per year. Our therapy staff is educated in identifying and addressing fall risk factors. Our therapists do this by training patients in the use of devices to assist walking and also by improving the patient’s balance and coordination abilities.
